The ACLC Offers a Variety of Services
ESL:
We provide free tutoring for English Language Learners from pre-beginner up to advanced. We provide both one-on-one tutoring and small groups that meet regularly. Our tutors are all trained and certified through TLC (Tutors of Literacy in the Commonwealth).
Basic Literacy
We provide free tutoring for adults who need to learn basic literacy skills in reading, writing and math. We provide both one-on-one tutoring and small groups that meet regularly. Our tutors are all trained and certified through TLC.
One on One Tutoring
At the ACLC, our primary method of instruction is through one on one tutoring. Our tutors meet their students between two and four hours a week. We have a library of resources specifically for adult education in ESL and Basic instruction including such series as The Laubach Way to English, Challenger Series, Breakthrough to Math, Active Listening and the Endeavor Series. Tutors mainly meet at our offices but they can meet anywhere that is convenient to both the tutors and the students. Our instruction is driven by the students’ goals for themselves.
Small Group Instruction
We offer various small group classes in both ESL and Basic Literacy Skill Building. Our groups are between 2 and ten students. Instruction in groups is less individualized than in one on one tutoring but it is still oriented toward specific student goals. We have groups that meet in our classroom at the office and also some off site.
