York Project SEARCH
Program Overview
The Project SEARCH High School Transition Program is a unique one-year, school-to-work,program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Students participate in employability and independent skill instruction and are assigned internships in up to three departments within the Wellspan Health network.
The program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help young adults with disabilities make successful transitions from school to productive adult life. All students will be involved with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). Eligible students will be involved with York-Adams County MH/IDD. Agencies meet with Project SEARCH staff, family, and students throughout the program year to provide vocational rehabilitation counseling and guidance along with various support services as required. Although there is no guarantee of employment through this program, the goal for each student is to obtain competitive employment either within the WellSpan network or in another community business. If students do not gain employment throughout the course of the year, they will continue to receive support through the Office of Vocatinal Rehabilitation and/or York-Adams MH/IDD upon graduation.
