Complex Needs Programs

Programs:

  • Intensive Learning Support

The Intensive Learning Support Program is designed to provide intensive educational programming for students with significant learning needs. These needs impact a student’s academic performance and social functioning. The program is designed for students who cannot make meaningful educational gains in less restrictive environments. Students eligible for the program meet the criteria for special education services, have a disability, and have the need for remediation. The program aligns academic skill development with PA Standards. Instruction is provided through research-based curricula and programs at the student’s instructional level.   Students are engaged in activities that involve cooperative learning and team-building skills.

Academic Instruction: Differentiated, intensive academic instruction is provided based on the child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The program has a specific curriculum developed for each academic area listed below, using evidence-based strategies implemented by special education staff.

Life Skills and Multiple Disabilities Support

Our Life Skills Support and MDS Programs support students with Complex Instructional Support Needs from grade Kindergarten through age 21 in York and Adams Counties. At the elementary level, students are exposed to rigorous, standards-based academic content at their instructional level. Programs are designed to increase independence in our students while providing a foundation for academic and functional knowledge using effective, evidence-based strategies.

At the secondary level, our programs focus on providing students with the skills needed to become college and career-ready. The focus of our Multiple Disability Support programs at the secondary level includes an emphasis on developing independent living skills for a successful transition from school to adult life.  Our Life Skills Support Classrooms focus on building skills for students to become successful both in the community and in a work-based setting. Students are connected to agency and community resources through their educational experiences in our secondary LSS classrooms.
