About the LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council

  • Our motto:

Empowering individuals and communities through literacy.

    Our mission:

is to empower the adults of Franklin County communities in their efforts to increase literacy and improve life and employment skills.

    Who We Are:

The Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 Franklin County Literacy Council (FCLC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency. The FCLC is part of the adult education division of Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 – a local special needs education provider- and a United Way of Franklin County Program Partner. We have been serving the adults of Franklin County, PA since 1985 by offering small group and one-on-one instruction for adults who are looking to improve their basic literacy and English language skills. The FCLC provides quality instruction through generous and talented volunteer tutors at no cost to adult learners. We also provide literacy workshops to the community that cover various topics and community needs through partnerships with other area agencies, organizations and businesses. Because we know that improving literacy benefits communities by lowering health costs, reducing crime, and enriching the economy, our goal at the LIU12 FCLC is to aid the low-literate adults of our communities in their efforts to increase their literacy and improve their life skills.

    Enrollment:

Interested adult learners may call 717-504-4459 Ext 3502 to arrange for an enrollment appointment. Instruction will be arranged at public locations that are mutually agreeable to both the student and the tutor. Remote learning options are also available.

    Volunteering:

Volunteer tutors are always needed. Tutor training is held at various times during the year, both online and in person. Please call the office for more details on volunteering as a tutor. Volunteers can also be used in capacities other than tutoring. Check our website for opportunities or call the office today to find out how you can help.
